you never know what you can do until you try!

What are you doing this weekend? Anything fun? Well, for me it is going to consist of this…

I will be working on my Piranesi Carceri” drawing. Yea, I have come a long way, but do you notice the large blank WHITE spot on the right side + bottom=lots of hours of work!! Needless to say this weekend I have my work cut out for me. And yes, my Friday night (along with a dinner outing) will consist of me and my Draughting 314 pencil dancing the tango on my paper. Thought I did opt to bring it home and work on it, as opposed to working on it here…
my studio desk!! Yes, my desk looks cheerful so you might wonder why I would want to bring my work with me. Don’t they say leave “work” at work? Let me enlighten you a little, as you move beyond the limits of this picture of my desk…this building is a rather dreadful place. It is a dull, cold concrete box. AGH…slightly depressing, right?
Now…just in case you so desire (right??) to recreate a “Carceri” drawing for yourself. Here is how you can do that:
1. download a “Carceri” drawing of your choice here
2. open the photo in photoshop and change the opacity to slight lighten the photo
3. print the image (11″x17″) onto a piece of Arches paper
4. hang up the paper on a big, blank wall
5. locate the vanishing points (which are off the paper, p.s.) using string
4. there you go…this is where the challenge begins. pick up your pencil and have at it.
We are pinning our drawings up in Montgomery, Monday night, at David Braly’s (our drawing professor) studio.  The Montgomery Art Philanthropy board will view them in the gallery on Tuesday night. NO PRESSURE AT ALL!!!
