Of the Young & the Restless is a fab-U-lous textile design studio that creates vibrant hand-printed fabrics. I have a sample of the Houndstooth-Mauve, Thorny Rose-Honeymoon and one from the woodgrain collection. The fabrics are well-made and the colors are deep. Theses punchy fabrics are sure to be a eye catcher in your home or apartment. At least a couch pillow would be nice…

up our sleeves…

Despite the heat index of well over 110 degrees down here in the South, we took it outdoors for a photo + video shoot. The reason? My sister-in-law and I have a little something up our sleeves that we have been working away on. One of her little dancers shared her sweet smile and precious spirit with us under the blazing hot sun and miserable humidity for two solid hours. She did everything that was asked of her, and was real trooper. She is a character and FUN to photograph.

Finally we took her inside for a change of clothes, water break and a whole lot of AC + a cold stone floor.

And when it was all done we got to see her new addition to her dance bag :: dance foot undeez by capezio for modern, lyrical and jazz dancers

and for now, it’s a wrap!

summer!

my summer has been relaxing and busy at the same time. a glimpse of what it’s held so far:

1 :: helping my sister-in-law with her 3/4 year old dance camp. there is nothing like cute girls decked out from head to toe in pink, pink and more frilly pink!

2 :: a little summer breakfast entertaining when you have lots of family in town for a visit [this was delicious]

3 :: numerous nyc trips

4 :: a “re”discovery of my paper obsession [on interviewer that i met with told me she would forever remember my GREEEN envelope-ha]

5 :: lots of on to go raspberry lemonade to assist in beating the 90 degree heat + humidity

6 :: wishing apple iphone was also served by verizon. but i am NOT willing to give up verizon’s service. despite what you might be told by the commercials on tv…verizons 3G network works better than at&t

7:: enjoying weekly pilates class without a guilt conscious telling me i have lots of more important things to be doing

8 :: finding that these wedges make my jaw literally hit the floor…ill admit i event tried them on.

9 :: reminding myself that it is okay to take a chance – even go to the extreme and be a little “extra risky” you never know the loner envelope might take you a long way…

10 :: scouring design blogs, magazines, books, websites – using my design imagination to go ahead and make a home out of a really small space aka a nyc apartment

11 :: and last but not least, even a little suit shopping!!

weekend plans

Yes this post is a little premature, but I cannot contain my excitement. So excited, I type this post “peck-style” with one hand all while I dry my hair. What can I say I’m a multi-tasker. Now you’re thinking what’s all this excitement about?? Well another wedding of course, but this time we are hitting the road to Charleston! The wedding party has a jammed packed itinerary. From rehearsal dinner to a night on the town, then waking up to a bridal brunch at 82 Queen, off to get all dolled up, the church ceremony and finally dancing the night away at The Mills House! I love Charleston and all of its’ charm-it calls for a week at the knees moment, the even better part…a perfect backdrop for picture-taking. So beware the post-wedding post will be picture pretty and text light! It’ll be a good break for the ole’ brain.

My friends my excitement + anticipation of what’s to come is making this week go by super slowly. Like way to SLOW!! So lets think about the here and now! What are you doing tonight? Any plans? Does it include margaritas? Afterall, it’s the 5th of May.

Spring is in full force here, and pretty Sunday afternoons are usually good recipes for Sunday afternoon baseball games. A good reason to spend time outside, and that of course demands the NEED to visit the yummy concession stand maybe even twice during the baseball outing. But what if you just want the tasty treats without the longgggg baseball game? It is kind of like going to Target for popcorn, but not wanted to go to a movie. You know what I mean? So what’s the alternative? MAKE YOUR OWN homemade soft PRETZELS with MUSTARD. In this case, make em’ tiny and everyone gets their own. Then there is not need to share one BIG one, which always successfully ends in a fight over who gets the “doughy” piece from the middle overlapping pieces.

Give it a shot too: it’s easy, takes few ingredients, and will rock your tummies world!!!!

Walking down Crosby Street in NYC, sited on the ground floor of an old 19th century building, you come upon a 2,800 square foot boutique. This is the SOHO home of fashion designer, Derek Lam’s, ready-to-wear and accessory collections. Boutique designed by the famed Japanese pricipals of the architecture firm SANAA – Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa. Their goal, “to make clothes stand out like sculptural *objets.” Acrylic bubbles [by Reynolds Polymer Technology; ATM (fabricator)]display the apparel. The architects+client determined “the container need not be boring”. What do you think?

The weekends’ weather forecast for a chance of rain was spot on. It has been a COLD & WET one! Luckily we have had lots of inside activity. Friday night was my sister’s Christmas dance performance (@ my sister-in-law’s dance studio) The “BIG girls” show was Friday night,

and the “little girls” show was this morning! This is one of the precious little angels that never ceases to steal my heart along with…

the entire room backstage jammed packed with hundreds of 3, 4, and 5 year olds!! Nothing is cuter than a bunch of ballerinas at 10 in the morning.

They were wide open…little angels.

bobby pins flying. tears for mommy. where is “MY” tutu. nervousness. excitement. smiles.

Well in the end, the show was super! It unfolded seamlessly, if that is even possible with all of the performers under the age of 5? Hearing all of the Christmas music, and watching these little gals boogie, turn, and jump to the sounds of Christmas cheer definitely got me in the sprit.

When we got back home, we decided to make cookie cutter Christmas sugar cookies!! And lots of em’…
